ACP Winners2009 ACP Advertising Award Finalists Ad Campaign
Judge's comments: This was the cleanest, simplest submission with the most consistent campaign. The advertisements make readers aware of a relevant issue by marketing a concept and pointing to a place to learn more/participate. The ad campaign is localized and identifies an audience: Spartans. The ads used high-impact images with a clear message. Using real people with real stories is a huge plus — it evokes empathy.
Judge's comments: Students love money and gifts, so this is a good sell. Many campaigns might have informed students of the book buy back program, but this campaign extended the book buy back by giving readers an idea and answering a question: How do I afford Christmas this year? Great ads provide follow through, relevance and purpose; they help people live. This ad does that.
Judge's comments: The color matching, clean composition, catchy type choice and care make this a stand out campaign. We especially enjoy the cupcake advertisement. Specifically, the table the cupcake, croissants and coffee sit on provides orientation and a three-dimensional plane for the ad to 'sit' atop while the other food items “float' in an undefined ether. We love that the ads speak directly to a reader, calling them out from the crowd to visit Our Daily Bread Café.
Ad/Editorial Supplement
Judge's comments: This entry leapt out immediately as a truly special section – in concept and execution. As a graduation commemorative issue, it is done with professional quality work in the design of both editorial and advertising content. Photos, art, and writing all live up the standard. Beautifully done.
Judge's comments: Buzz was the best of the ‘best of’ sections. The look is contemporary, attractive and consistent throughout. Although we’d like to see some fresh ideas in the ‘best of’ genre, this one does get the basics right by providing quick reads, essential information prominently displayed and runners-up information. Good variety of advertising, clean designs that went well with the look of the whole publication.
Judge's comments: The fundamental campus/town directory, done thoroughly and competently. Good ideas, generally a clean and readable design. You branched out more than other similar guides.
Brochure/Rate Card
Judge's comments: Overall, a quality presentation. Inside piece/cover is awesome. Big photo and clean type, design make it a quality piece. Nice bright and contrast color pages.
Judge's comments: Great size and variety and choice of paper. We liked the section with ruler on inside cover. It is very consistent throughout. Good color choice; inside cover is great.
Judge's comments: Nice use of white space. Great intro page. Nice binder! Display Ad
Judge's comments: Incredibly clean design combining an eco-friendly feel within the dining theme. Strong central graphic and effective use of text wrap.
Judge's comments: Nice use of negative space to draw you in, youthful feel to attract students to purchase school's gear.
Judge's comments: Nice graphic image to tie event announcement to theme. Subtle colors allow pertinent information to jump off of the page.
House Ad
Judge's comments: The 'grab hold of your news' ad has a great image with the illusion of movement. It shows how professional the paper looks and creates a feeling of urgency in getting and holding onto a copy. We're impressed with how much effort the staff put into getting these photos to go with their ad concept instead of just using stock photography that would have had less impact.
Judge's comments: Ad looks very professional. The message is clearly established and has a sense of immediacy. The 'there are only two days left' is large and spurs the reader to action. The sunburst background draws the reader’s eye directly to the entry form. This ad also makes it clear that the paper is sponsoring the contest. Overall, this is a very effective ad.
Judge's comments: The message in this ad translates immediately to the reader. The use of actual examples of products being offered gives readers a clear idea of the kinds of products they can order with CMU images on it. The progression of images from the actual paper to the products creates a clear transition. Using the school’s colors adds to the impact. |
