NSPA looks forward to strong transition in JEA stewardship

The National Scholastic Press Association wishes our longtime partner group the Journalism Education Association all the best as it seeks a new executive director.

Kelly Furnas has accepted a teaching position this fall at Elon University in North Carolina.

“Kelly is a consummate professional whose stewardship of JEA has made it a strong and powerful advocate for journalism education. Whoever receives the handoff of his baton will step into a JEA at full strength with deep resources,” said NSPA Executive Director Diana Mitsu Klos. “The JEA board, journalism school leadership at Kansas State University and Kelly will ensure a smooth transition.”

NSPA and JEA have been convention partners for nearly a century; planning is already well underway for this fall’s National High School Journalism Convention in Indianapolis and for next spring’s convention in Seattle.

As we say so long to Kelly, we look forward to continuing our collaborations with JEA in service to scholastic media.
