MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Overlooked.com,<\/strong><\/a> the social-news network that fights disinformation as it develops revenue for local newspapers, is now an affiliate of Associated Collegiate Press.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of ACP, the nation\u2019s largest organization for collegiate-media organizations, can now take advantage of Overlooked at a special ACP-member rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founder and CEO George Sehremelis says Overlooked will focus on helping collegiate newspapers increase their advertising revenue as the platform works with the nation\u2019s local news organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said there is great promise and opportunity to invest in these trusted publishers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is hope because 85 percent of Americans still trust local newspapers,\u201d Sehremelis said. \u201cEven though print distribution has declined, mainly because of the impact of news on social media, people trust local news organizations for truth and unbiased reporting \u2014 what this country was built on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdvertisements perform better on Overlooked, in comparison to traditional social networks, because people trust the local advertisements. Local newspapers are not capturing the true value of their trustworthy content via their print distribution, especially in the post COVID-19 shift towards a digital advertising duopoly,\u201d Sehremelis said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe want to change that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overlooked and ACP reached an affiliation agreement in December. The goal is to help college newspapers in need of alternative revenue during a critical time, with a potential advertising surge that can also build stronger journalistic practices to social media on a more trustworthy social news network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe at ACP know that our members are facing enormous challenges,\u201d Executive Director Laura Widmer said, \u201cand we want to do all that we can to support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis potential ad revenue stream through Overlooked could help college newspapers build a sustainable path forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
