MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Associated Collegiate Press has recognized 31 online news and magazine sites as finalists in the Online Pacemaker competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners will be announced at the ACP Pacemaker and Individual Awards Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at MediaFest22,<\/a><\/strong> the Fall National College Media Convention, in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Pacemaker is the association\u2019s preeminent award,\u201d executive director Laura Widmer said. \u201cACP is honored to recognize the best of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The 31 online finalists represent 15 states and a Canadian province.  California set the pace with six finalists followed by North Carolina and Texas and North Carolina each with four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 31 finalists, 17 will earn Pacemaker honors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online sites from two-year and four-year schools competed in separate divisions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the four-year school category, websites competed against those from colleges and universities with similar enrollments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To select the finalists, respected professionals including professors and current digital media professionals analyzed, discussed and rated each entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday\u2019s best online sites are platforms for rich multimedia storytelling,\u201d associate director Gary Lundgren said. \u201cDeep and diverse coverage with strong engagement and interactivity distinguish the best student-produced sites.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this competition, only the online product was judged. Print newspapers compete in a separate Pacemaker competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finalists are alphabetical by state.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
