MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 Student magazines from 45 colleges and universities have been recognized as Pacemaker finalists by the Associated College Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners will be announced at the ACP Pacemaker and Individual Awards Ceremony at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28, at MediaFest22,<\/a><\/strong> the Fall National College Media Convention, in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Pacemaker is the association\u2019s preeminent award,\u201d executive director Laura Widmer said. \u201cACP is honored to recognize the best of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The 45 magazines named as finalists represent 17 states. From the 45 finalists, 19 will earn Pacemakers. Magazines competed in feature\/general audience and literary arts divisions. Magazines produced at both four-year and two-year institutions competed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the feature magazine category, there are 27 finalists \u2014 five from two-year and 22  from four-year institutions. Of these 27 finalists, 11 will earn Pacemakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the literary arts magazine category, there are 18 finalists \u2014 six from two-year and 12 from four-year institutions. Of these 18 finalists, eight will earn Pacemakers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three judges, with extensive magazine-editing and advising experience, studied each entry discussing and analyzing its strengths and weaknesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary Lundgren, ACP associate director and coordinator of the Pacemaker competition, noted that the quality of the winning collegiate magazines rivals those produced by professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe verbal and visual storytelling in the winning magazines is incredible and robust long-form stories combined with shorter quick-reads to pace the reader through the pages of the feature magazines,\u201d Lundgren said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd the creativity displayed in the literary arts magazines is incredible \u2014 the unique formats and creative designs make the magazines themselves a work of art,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
