ACP Pacemaker competition names 45 finalists <\/em><\/em><\/em><\/strong>
as \u2018the best of the best\u2019<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 The Associated Collegiate Press has recognized 45 online news and magazine sites as finalists in the Online Pacemaker competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners will be announced at the ACP Pacemaker and Individual Awards Ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Fall National College Media Convention,<\/a><\/strong> in Atlanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Pacemaker is the association\u2019s preeminent award,\u201d executive director Laura Widmer said. \u201cACP is honored to recognize the best of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 45 finalists represent 21 states. California set the pace with 13 finalists, followed by Illinois with four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of the 45 finalists, 20 will earn Pacemaker honors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online sites from two-year and four-year schools competed in separate divisions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within the four-year school category, websites competed against those from colleges and universities with similar enrollments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To select the finalists, respected professionals, including professors and current digital media professionals, analyzed, discussed and rated each entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gary Lundgren, ACP associate director and coordinator of the Pacemaker competition, noted the quality of student websites is improving significantly each year. In 2022, there were 31 finalists compared to 45 in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday\u2019s best online sites are platforms for rich multimedia storytelling,\u201d associate director Gary Lundgren said. \u201cDeep and diverse coverage with strong engagement and interactivity distinguish the best student-produced sites.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this competition, only the online product was judged. Print newspapers and magazines compete in separate Pacemaker competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finalists are alphabetical by state.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
