Kennedy assassination, public radio and more will join thousands of student journalists at the National College Media Convention in Dallas this fall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/studentpress.org\/acp\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Associated Collegiate Press<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegemedia.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Media Association<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are proud to announce David O. Brown<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who will speak Thursday, Oct. 26, is a 33-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department. After retiring last fall, he joined ABC News as a correspondent and serves as an adviser for Texas organizations that support early childhood education, mental health awareness and treatment and assistance for people who have been incarcerated.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Four-time Pulitzer Prize finalist <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hughaynesworth.com\/\"><b>Hugh Aynesworth<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who presents Friday, Oct. 27, has been bureau chief of Newsweek and Washington Times, investigative team leader for ABC\u2019s 20\/20 and has authored or\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">co-authored six books. As a 32-year-old Dallas Morning News reporter, he gained widespread recognition for his coverage of John F. Kennedy\u2019s assassination, Jack Ruby\u2019s trial and the following conspiracies \u2014 and earned two Pulitzer Prize nominations for that work. Aynesworth also recently won an Emmy for a documentary in which he interviewed more than 20 people involved in the coverage of the tragedy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/people\/bob-schieffer\"><b>Bob Schieffer<\/b><\/a><b>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who will address students on Saturday, Oct. 28, served as anchor of the CBS evening news for two years \u2014 during which time the network saw the largest ratings increase in more than a decade. Schieffer has been designated a \u201cliving legend\u201d by the Library of Congress, inducted into the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emmys.com\/news\/interviews-project-news\/tv-academy-announces-22nd-hall-fame-inductees\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences&#8217; Hall of Fame<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, moderated three presidential debates, and won nearly every award in broadcast journalism, including eight Emmys. Schieffer retired from \u201cFace the Nation\u201d in 2015 \u2014 after taking it to No. 1 in ratings \u2014 but still offers political analysis for CBS, hosts a weekly podcast called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csis.org\/podcasts\/bob-schieffers-about-news-h-andrew-schwartz\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAbout the News,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and his fifth book (\u201cOverload: Finding Truth in the Deluge of News\u201d) is set to be released in October. His says his most meaningful recognition was when his alma mater, Texas Christian University, named its communication college the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/schieffercollege.tcu.edu\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBob Schieffer College of Communication.\u201d<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Award-winning reporter <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/keranews.org\/people\/stella-m-ch-vez\"><b>Stella M. Ch\u00e1vez<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who will give the keynote on Sunday, Oct. 29, covers education for <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/keranews.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KERA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the NPR affiliate in Dallas. She has also contributed to major news stories such as the shooting of five police officers in downtown Dallas, the Ebola case in Dallas and more. Before pivoting to radio, she worked as a newspaper reporter for nearly 13 years, including at the Dallas Morning News, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel and The Ledger in Lakeland, Florida. Ch\u00e1vez has won several awards, including the 2007 Livingston Award for Young Journalists in National Reporting for her entry of the seven-part series she co-authored, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wallacehouse.umich.edu\/wp-content-uploads\/2007\/06\/YolandaReduced.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yolanda\u2019s Crossing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d which reconstructs the 5,000-mile journey of a young Mexican sexual-abuse victim from a small Oaxacan village to Dallas. That piece won several other national awards. Her essay about her sister who suffers from a mental illness, \u201cGrowing up with Silvia,\u201d was published in the literary journal <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.themayborn.com\/ten-spurs\/2012\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ten Spurs<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2012.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/collegemedia17.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National College Media Convention<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a partnership between Associated Collegiate Press and the College Media Association, will be held Oct. 25-29 at the Sheraton in Dallas. Hundreds of sessions will be offered, with topics encompassing all aspects of student journalism. The early-bird deadline for convention registration is Oct. 4.
