MINNEAPOLIS \u2014 The Associated College Press has named 32 collegiate student magazines as finalists in its annual Pacemaker competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pacemaker is the association\u2019s preeminent award,\u201d said Laura Widmer, executive director. \u201cACP is honored to recognize the best of the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 32 magazines represent 15 states as well as Canada.<\/p>\n

In all, 105 student magazines entered the Pacemaker competition. A team of judges studied every entry, discussing its strengths and weaknesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Pacemaker winning magazines were incredible and could hold their own on the newsstand in the company of the very best professionally produced magazines,\u201d the judges said.<\/p>\n

For judging, magazines were divided into two major categories \u2014 feature and literary art. Whether the magazine was produced at a four-year or two-year school was also taken into consideration.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe winning literary art magazines not only featured creative content, but brought creativity to the display and packaging of the creative content,\u201d the judges said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe quality of the magazines produced at the collegiate level is amazing,\u201d said Gary Lundgren, associate director. \u201cThe storytelling is remarkable with a great blend of shorter quick-reads and substantial long-form stories in the feature magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n

Of the 32 Pacemaker finalists, nine are from two-year schools. 14 will be named Pacemakers in October.<\/p>\n

Detailed comments from the judges about each of the 14 Pacemakers will be posted when the Pacemaker winners are announced.<\/p>\n

Pacemaker finalists will be recognized and the Pacemaker winners announced at the ACP\/CMA National College Media Convention<\/a>, Oct. 25-29, 2017 in Dallas.<\/p>\n
