class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The National Scholastic Press Association has presented scholastic journalism\u2019s preeminent award \u2014 the Pacemaker \u2014 since 1927.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners are announced at JEA\/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention, both fall and spring. NSPA membership qualifies a publication for participation in the Pacemaker competition. Entries must have been published or broadcast during the dates specified on each entry form. High school and junior high\/middle school student media are both eligible and compete in separate categories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participation in the Pacemaker contest is a benefit of NSPA membership. There aren\u2019t additional entry fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pacemaker entries compete directly against each other. There are no written critiques or scoring rubrics. Provide examples and documentation as appropriate. Careful editing and visual packaging are important.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finalists will be announced in February 2026. Yearbooks will not be returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If participating in <a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/critiques\/\"><strong>the NSPA Critique Service<\/strong>,<\/a> a second copy of the yearbook for Pacemaker competition is required. Two yearbooks will fit in this box. DO NOT wrap the yearbooks inside the box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DO NOT use Media Mail from the U.S. Postal Service. A specialty magazine has its own identity and name and it is not a special edition of a newspaper\/newsmagazine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Topical magazines such as sports, science, business or entertainment also compete in this category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Literary arts and newsmagazines do not compete in this category. recognition through <a href=\"https:\/\/quillandscroll.org\/members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>the Quill and Scroll International Honor Society for Student Journalists,<\/strong><\/a> which is now part of NSPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To earn the NSPA Leadership Award in Student Journalism, a high school student must serve with distinction for at least two years on the staff of an NSPA-member broadcast, literary arts magazine, newspaper\/newsmagazine, specialty magazine, website or yearbook by the end of the current school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are nominated by their advisers. A specific grade-point average is not required; however, students must be in good academic standing and demonstrate journalistic excellence and staff leadership while maintaining the high ethical standards outlined in the NSPA Model Code of Ethics. The code is free for members through <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the NSPA Store.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Advisers must submit nomination forms by <strong>Feb. 10, 2025<\/strong>. The form is on <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/nspa.member365.com\/crm\/home\" target=\"_blank\">the membership portal<\/a><\/strong> under the Contests
