Oct. 1, 2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1,134 designs submitted from 32 states, judges selected 100 finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association 2019 Design of the Year competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten finalists have been selected in 10 different categories \u2014 newspaper front page, newspaper inside page\/spread, newsmagazine cover, newsmagazine page\/spread, literary\/specialty magazine cover, literary\/specialty magazine page\/spread, yearbook spread, yearbook theme package, information graphic and illustration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“With an emphasis placed on packaging verbal and visual content in a reader-friendly way, the finalists demonstrate creativity with typography, white space and color,” Gary Lundgren, associate director and contest coordinator, said. “Design is definitely playing a key role in the evolution of print publications.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the finalists will be recognized and the winners announced for the first time at the JEA\/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention<\/a><\/strong>, <\/a>Nov. 21-24, 2019, in Washington, D.C., during the NSPA Awards Ceremony on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lundgren also noted the growing use of digital illustration in scholastic media with top student designers using Adobe Illustrator and tools like the Adobe Fresco app and Wacom tablets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First through fifth place winners will be announced in each category with the designers receiving plaques. Five honorable mention winners will receive certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finalists are presented below in alphabetical order by state.<\/em>
