Each day this week, NSPA will announce finalists for one or more of the 2013 Individual Awards and Pacemaker contests.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Multimedia Story of the Year <\/strong>contest is co-sponsored by PBS NewsHour Extra and honors student work in three categories: News, Feature and Sports. Entries were judged based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Value, importance or worth of story<\/li>\n<li>Innovation in use of multimedia<\/li>\n<li>Technical quality of multimedia elements<\/li>\n<li>Adherence to copyright laws<\/li>\n<li>Quality of writing and editing<\/li>\n<li>Credibility and leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentpress.org\/nspa\/winners\/mstory13.html\"> View the list of Multimedia Story of the Year finalists<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The print <strong>Story of the Year<\/strong> contest is co-sponsored by The Headline Club, the Chicago chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The contest honors student work in the following categories: News, Feature, Editorial, Sports and Diversity. The categories combined yielded more than 750 entries. Judges selected finalists based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Value, importance or worth of story<\/li>\n<li>Quality of reporting and quotes<\/li>\n<li>Quality of writing and editing<\/li>\n<li>Credibility and leadership<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentpress.org\/nspa\/winners\/story13.html\">View the list of Story of the Year finalists<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first place winners in each category will compete for the $1,000 Brasler Prize, judged by Wayne Brasler of University High School in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Broadcast Story of the Year <\/strong>contest is co-sponsored by SchoolTube.com and the Radio Television Digital News Foundation. The contest honors work in the following categories: News, Sports and Feature. Entries were judged based on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Content\/Coverage<\/li>\n<li>Writing and editing of the script<\/li>\n<li>Recording and editing of the show<\/li>\n<li>Interviewing skills<\/li>\n<li>Technical quality<\/li>\n<li>Journalistic integrity, courage and ambition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentpress.org\/nspa\/winners\/bcstory13.html\">View the list of Broadcast Story of the Year finalists<\/a><\/p>\n<p>First through fifth places and honorable mentions will be announced at the <a href=\"http:\/\/boston.journalismconvention.org\/\">JEA\/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention<\/a> on Nov. 16 in Boston.<\/p>\n<p>Comments from all judging teams will be published on the NSPA website after the winners have been announced.
