Our host city for the National High School Journalism Convention<\/a> is vibrant, artistic, energetic and full of activities to keep you entertained. We\u2019ve rounded up a few places to hit after sessions.<\/p>\n

Learn about the Kennedy assassination<\/h1>\n

This isn\u2019t just for history buffs. View the historic site of President John F. Kennedy\u2019s assassination at Dealey Plaza<\/a><\/strong>, a National Historic Landmark that bears a memorial for the late commander-in-chief. The nearby Sixth Floor Museum<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 inside the Texas School Book Depository Building, where Harvey Lee Oswald shot Kennedy \u2014 chronicles Kennedy\u2019s life and legacy.<\/p>\n

Get cultured<\/h1>\n

Get a taste of Texas at Pioneer Plaza<\/strong>, where dozens of life-size statues<\/a> around the park depict a cattle drive that you can walk through \u2014 or, if you\u2019re feeling adventurous, you can recreate your own \u201cRunning of the Bulls.\u201d It\u2019s just something you have to see for yourself.<\/p>\n

This one\u2019s for all you print and design nerds: Take a stroll through We Are 1976<\/a><\/strong>, an adorable gift shop that has its own design and letterpress studio. If you\u2019re up for a short drive, you can pick up a unique souvenir or get inspired for your next graphic design project.<\/p>\n

Need some quiet time? Explore the Dallas Museum of Art<\/a><\/strong>, just a short walk from our convention hotel. Even better: General admission is free every day.<\/p>\n

Another option is the Crow Collection of Asian Art<\/a><\/strong>, where you can look through 500 pieces of work from 3500 BC to the 20th century. It\u2019s very close to the Sheraton Dallas Hotel, and admission is always free.<\/p>\n

Go on an adventure<\/h1>\n

Klyde Warren Park<\/strong><\/a>, an \u201curban green space\u201d built over a freeway, offers four or five free events per day, from Zumba to lectures. And even if there\u2019s nothing going on, it\u2019s still worth a walk from the hotel.<\/p>\n

Escape modern life (well, more or less) in the middle of this bustling city. Dallas Heritage Village<\/a><\/strong> offers group discounts for anyone wanting a taste of old times. See authentic, historic buildings, browse antique artifacts and look through old photographs and postcards.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re staying an extra day, you might explore the Dallas World Aquarium<\/a><\/strong> or the Dallas Zoo<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 it\u2019d be a relaxing and interesting way to rest your mind after four days of learning.<\/p>\n
