{"id":608124,"date":"2021-07-21T16:54:31","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T21:54:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/?p=608124"},"modified":"2021-07-23T09:23:34","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T14:23:34","slug":"new-nspa-acp-board-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/new-nspa-acp-board-members\/","title":{"rendered":"NSPA\/ACP names educator, journalist to its board of directors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-6\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>July 22, 2021<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Two journalism educators with extensive experience in education and journalism have been named to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/about\/about-board\/\">the board of directors<\/a><\/strong> of National Scholastic Press Association \/ Associated Collegiate Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Margie Raper<\/strong> and <strong>Diego Aparicio<\/strong> have joined the board that oversees both press associations, which serve student journalists and journalism teachers and media advisers across the nation and in other countries. <a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/nspa\/\"><strong>The NSPA division<\/strong><\/a> serves high school journalism, <a href=\"https:\/\/studentpress.org\/acp\/\"><strong>the ACP division<\/strong><\/a> serves collegiate journalism, and <a href=\"https:\/\/mnpress.org\/\"><strong>the Minnesota High School Press Association<\/strong><\/a> supports high school journalists across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both NSPA and ACP serve their members with fall and spring conventions and a range of recognition programs. The NSPA and ACP Pacemaker Awards are considered the top prizes in both scholastic and collegiate journalism. The associations celebrate their 100th year in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to have Diego and Margie join our board,\u201d executive director Laura Widmer said. \u201cWe know they will bring new ideas to the board, but they also bring experience from a variety of programs and media outlets over their illustrious careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Raper is an 18-year journalism teacher who serves as broadcast journalism and publication adviser at Prosper-Rock Hill High School, Frisco, Texas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is past president of the Texas Association of Journalism Educators and has been honored as Distinguished Yearbook Adviser by Journalism Education Association. She also teaches at the summer Gloria Shields NSPA Media Workshop and serves on its planning committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI have grown as a journalism educator thanks to NSPA\/ACP&#8217;s mission to support, inspire and enhance standards and practices in classrooms&nbsp;and newsrooms across the country,\u201d Raper said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJournalism&nbsp;programs face a range of challenges and are in need of support and resources,\u201d she said. \u201cJoining the NSPA\/ACP board is my opportunity to give back and serve the community that has given me so much.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jeanne Acton, president of the NSPA\/ACP board and director of the University Interscholastic League, Austin, Texas, welcomed Raper to the board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Texas, Margie is known as the Energizer Bunny. She is more productive than anyone I know,\u201d&nbsp; Acton said. \u201cShe thrives with all media and creates incredible programs across all platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aparicio is a journalist specializing in bilingual audiences and multi-platform storytelling.
