NSPA names finalists in highly competitive Individual Awards competitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Approximately 450 entries have been named finalists in the 2024 NSPA Individual Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NSPA Individual Awards honor the nation\u2019s best scholastic journalism \u2014 in a wide range of categories. The awards are presented to individuals and small teams. There are 46 contests in 11 divisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition is rigorous with nine percent of the 4,800 entries earning finalist status. The entries are the work of individual or small teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winners will be announced for the first time on Nov. 9, at the NSPA Awards Ceremony during the JEA\/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention<\/strong><\/a> in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top five winners along with five honorable mentions will be named in each contest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the winners are announced on Nov. 9, a gallery of the winners and honorable mentions will be displayed on the NSPA website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cartoon of the Year<\/strong> (2 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design of the Year <\/strong>(10 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital Story of the Year<\/strong> (7 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Photo of the Year <\/strong>(5 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Story of the Year <\/strong>(5 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion<\/strong> (1 contest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fred Ross Systemic Change Student Journalism Competition<\/strong> (1 contest)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local Climate Change Reporting<\/strong> (2 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portfolio of the Year<\/strong> (7 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Best Use of Social Media<\/strong> (2 contests)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NSPA Individual Awards also honor the nation\u2019s best junior high\/middle school journalism. There are nine contests in three categories in that separate competition. Those finalists will be announced in October.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The convention offers hundreds of instructional sessions, keynote speakers from national newsmakers, dozens of media critiques, JEA\u2019s popular on-site media contests and the announcement of NSPA national winners for Pacemaker Awards and Individual Awards.
