ACP names seven yearbooks as Pacemaker finalists

MINNEAPOLIS — The nation’s top collegiate yearbooks were recognized today by the Associated Collegiate Press who announced seven finalists in its annual Pacemaker competition.

“The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” said Laura Widmer, executive director. “ACP is honored to recognize the best of the best with Pacemaker honors.”

The ACP Pacemaker award, one of the oldest awards for collegiate journalism, has a rich tradition. The association began presenting the prestigious award to collegiate newspapers soon after the organization was founded in 1921. Throughout the years, yearbooks, magazines and online sites were added to the competition.

“These yearbooks deliver engaging verbal and visual stories, showcasing superior photojournalism, writing and design,” said Gary Lundgren, associate director and coordinator of the Pacemaker competitions. “These yearbooks cover universities with 6,000 to 63,000 students, and the spirit and diversity of those collegiate communities come alive on their pages.”

Yearbooks produced during the 2017-18 school year competed directly against each other. A team of three nationally recognized judges selected the seven finalists and three Pacemaker winners. The three winners represent the top 10 percent of the approximately 30 yearbooks submitted.

All seven yearbooks will be honored and the Pacemaker winners announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention on Oct. 31-Nov 3, 2019 in Washington D.C.
