ACP statement on student-press freedom

Jan. 14, 2021

Now, more than ever, student journalists must have the freedom to report on our government and its Constitutional functions.

The First Amendment has no age limit. It extends to the brave journalists covering events across the nation, and it protects student journalists with the same mission.

Associated Collegiate Press condemns any attempts to coerce or restrain journalists, regardless of age, regardless of the political climate. When you restrain or forbid student journalists from reporting news and sharing perspectives, you are restraining the education that is fundamental to our democracy.

ACP stands for student journalists and their First Amendment freedoms. With our partners in journalism and journalism education, we salute all journalists as they work to inform us during this historic time.
