Report for America  (RFA) is a national service program that places talented early-career and experienced journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered topics and communities across the United States and its territories. By creating a new, sustainable model for journalism, Report for America provides people with the information they need to improve their communities, hold powerful institutions accountable, and restore trust in the media. Report for America is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, an award-winning nonprofit journalism organization dedicated to rebuilding journalism from the ground up.

We are seeking talented, service-minded journalists and photographers to join our reporting corps. Applications are now open for more than 50 journalism positions in newsrooms of all types – digital startups, daily and weekly newspapers, radio and TV stations, a wire service and more. RFA is a two-year program, with an optional third year. Check out our interactive database of job openings, salary ranges, newsrooms and beats here. Beat reporting opportunities include the environment, elections and voting, state government (7 positions with the Associated Press), and rural communities to name a few. Candidates applying should have a minimum of 1-3 years of local news experience. Recent graduates may apply if they’ve had local newsroom internships or journalism leadership experience in college.

Report for America is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
