Our convention hotel in Long Beach is in a pretty amazing place — it’s right on the water, surrounded by activities, delicious food and places to explore. You’re sure to have a great time in the city (and a great time getting excited about journalism in the sessions!).
Here are just a few things you can do during convention off-hours, all close to the Hyatt Regency hotel.
Just a quick walk across a pedestrian bridge, Shoreline Village is an adorable area to walk around and browse. You’ll find restaurants and quirky shops, perfect for picking up a souvenir to remember your time here.
Pine Avenue Pier is nestled in the bay, a five-minute walk from the hotel. You can walk the pier or stop and explore the food, drink and other destinations along Pine Avenue.
Looking for a bit of history? Take a tour of the iconic Queen Mary (or catch a glimpse driving by). It’s a decent walk, but only an 8-minute drive from the hotel.
Need to get away? Take a quick walk to the lighthouse at Shoreline Aquatic Park, where you can catch views of the Queen Mary and the Long Beach skyline. You can even grab lunch and enjoy the scenery from a picnic table.
If you’re coming early or staying late, the aquarium is an excellent choice — and, even better, it’s only a 10-minute walk from the Hyatt Regency. See a baby penguin, touch moon jellies and learn about the 11,000 other animals that live there.
Haven’t signed up for the Midwinter National College Media Convention? Reserve your room by Jan. 29 to receive the convention hotel price! The early-bird deadline for registration is Feb. 7.
