Dan Reimold’s legacy continues with #collegemedia Sunday live chat
This Sunday night, join us once again for the #collegemedia live chat! Stop by Twitter starting at 7 p.m. EST for a fun, free-flowing, hour-long discussion about college media, new media, millennials and the future of journalism!
Under the leadership of the late Dan Reimold (@CollegeMedia himself), these Sunday Twitter chats have led to some top-flight discussions about the truly great things going on in College Media across the country… While we’re still shocked and saddened by Dan’s recent passing, and while in no way are we attempting to replace Dan’s passion or knowledge (no way we could do it!), there’s a sizable group of us in College Media committed to keeping Dan’s legacy going, and his commitment to keeping the discussion moving!
So this Sunday, we’ll be there, and you should too!
Among the featured topics this weekend:
- To transform or not to transform, and how? From Alabama to Arizona and man in between, the idea of transformation the print product in a supposed-digital world continues to take shape. But at LSU, students and alumni are trying their best to hit the breaks, making sure the student voice is heard loud and clear before such a decision comes through…
- Transformations don’t just mean cutting back, but also growth and evolution. At some schools, this means convergence and bringing multiple media arms together under one roof…
- Finding the right voice for your precise audience is never easy; but we’ll ask the Daily Tar Heel’s own community manager how the DTH crew has managed to turn their standard e-edition into a must-read-every-morning
- And more!!
Among the featured participants this weekend:
- Danny Nett (@nettliest) – community manager at The Daily Tar Heel at the University of North Carolina; adding comic relief and a personalized touch to your morning as the voice behind DTH’s hilarious and information-packed “DTH At a Glance†email edition
- Sean Landry (@LandrySean) – current EIC of The Crimson White at the University of Alabama; announced this week a shift to “Crimson White Media Group†and a digital/print overhaul for current semester
- Fernanda Zamudio (@FernandaZamudio) – current EIC at The Daily Reveille at Lousiana State University (LSU); currently arguing for more student input in the decision-making process about whether cutting print circulation solves the “problems†#CollegeMedia may be facing
- Julia Shumway (@JMShumway) – former EIC of The State Press at Arizona State University (ASU), but a #CollegeMedia lifer at heart! Julia was at the helm of one of the most significant transformations we’ve seen so far in #CollegeMedia: SP’s shift not to digital first, but digital only
- Jessie Webster (@JessieWebster15) – current EIC of The Daily Wildcat at the University of Arizona; helped get the Wildcat ready for a 3-day print tabloid this year, and a new digital newsroom staffing structure
- Colin Donahue (@cmdonohue) – Journalism educator and coordinator of student media at Elon University, and adviser to The Pendulum newspaper
- Sabastian Wee (@SabastianW1) – former #CollegeMedia EIC and currently a designer at the Gainesville Times in Georgia and volunteer student media adviser at Georgia State University
Again, join us at 7 p.m. EST, at #CollegeMedia!
