The 2008 NSPA Wikoff Scholarship for Editorial Leadership is awarded to Adrienne Wood of Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kan. Wood, whose entry was chosen from nearly 70 applications for the scholarship, will receive a $1,000 award and be recognized at the JEA/NSPA spring convention in Anaheim.
“Adrienne showed superior analytical and writing skills,” said Bruce Dold, editorial page editor of the Chicago Tribune, who judged the scholarship entries. “Her work is clear, concise and persuasive. Her essay ‘The politically correct’ could run in any newspaper in the country.”
Dold has been with the Tribune since 1978 is a 1994 Pulitzer Prize winner for editorial writing.
