Fall 2020 Clips & Clicks

Feb. 1, 2021

Congratulations to the winners of the inaugural semester of the NSPA Clips & Clicks contest — and to the schools competing for this year’s Sweepstakes.

The competition, open to all NSPA members, honors current work among student journalists, and the fall-semester winners encompass work produced from Aug. 1-Dec. 28, 2020.

There were 483 submissions in the fall competition, with 33 high schools winning places.

“The judges consistently said they were very impressed with the quality of the entries submitted,” associate director Gary Lundgren said. “The Clips & Clicks competition is new for NSPA, and it is clear this is going to be a very popular contest going forward.”

Judges were collegiate professors, collegiate student media advisers and professional journalists.

The numbers of winners in each category was determined by the judges based on the quantity and quality of the entries. When calculating Sweepstakes, we assign these points:

First Place: 10
Second Place: 9
Third Place: 8

Fourth Place: 7
Fifth Place: 6
Honorable mention: 5

Spring Clips & Clicks

The competition is now open for work produced Jan. 1-May 15, 2021.

The deadline is May 28, 2021.

The cost is $10 per entry, with no limit on entries. Any student on staff at an NSPA-member publication is eligible.

Here are the top 12 schools going into the spring competition.

When spring results are added in June, we’ll announce the winner of our Clips & Clicks Sweepstakes trophy.
